didnt know Darrell well but enough for a couple of memories that I want to share. To me, he was always this explosive superhero athlete who, could run fast jump high super strong even his hair looked ultra healthy lol. We had a neighborhood versus neighborhood touch football game… Big time… Big game… Darrell was on the other side and easily faster stronger and could throw the ball farther

Jerry Scanlon, tall and lanky and our quarterback, I think knew this as well… Darrell caught a pass in front of him in a low-scoring game and Jerry clotheslined him right across the neck knocking him right on his back… Darrell sprang up and there was Jerry,  standing there, hands at his side, face clinched, taking responsibility for it and ready to defend our neighborhood, and it was like Darrell looked at him and then looked away; knowing that quiet Jerry could never have done such a thing lol lol he never did find the culprit I guess

I had heard that Darrell had an incredibly strong arm in baseball and people called him 'the wild man'.  So I found out about a game he was pitching at after we had graduated from high school. I watched him pitch He was absolutely crazy lol he could strike you out in three pictures you could almost see the steam rising from the catchers mitt after his fastball that they said was in the 90s at the time. I didn't know what that meant but it sounded pretty fast to me lol and then the next guy;  he would throw the ball over the catchers head or wide right or left, scaring and walking four batters in row. Then he struck out the next three.

Maybe that's who Darren was… An all or nothing guy

I hope he kept that up because that makes for a really good life and this case, a  far too short one

May the sun shine wherever you are Darrell, because I'm figuring you were always happy there; outdoors on the grass: running throwing and jumping like a super hero should.

For the last few years; when I turn the corner on Hudson Blvd I would pray for Darrell and look forward to Dale Bentley and Darrell meeting for a meal. WIth COVID and Darrell's health, we had not met for quite a while. Darrell was always one of the "Good guys." See you soon, Darrell!
